Phone Down

The obelisk of truth sways in the winds

Of time and energy

Distortion is always a factor

Smooth motion of fiery spheres

Shadowing blisters

My memories cannot shift gears

I am…

Gracious beyond years

Yet I’m gluttonous due to instant gratification

Seeing facetious and flustered faces

Faltering fast

Altering what lasts of their true self

I juggle my opinions

Rattling digitized grand gestures toward them

The abyss of the internet

Until she walked by

A sway that moved mountains

Love is in her hips

Hair that called to me

A sweet bounce in a curl

All eyes on her

She barely noticed

She barely ever notices that

I loved her when I saw her

And lost all ability to process thought

I put my phone down

Paid attention to the present or her presence

Searching for the path of illumination

I could not speak

My tongue did not move

Slivers of gray matter seemed to disappear

Synapses ceased to fire

The electricity could not find a jump point

Spark plugs were dead

Until olfactory kicked in

Her scent

A cool blossom of lilies and daffodils

Moving over water in the everglades in autumn

Light and airy

Crisp

Her lips, a dark shade

Almost burgundy

Oxygenated blood

I’d give her mine, if she’d have it

I wanted her when we met

And lost my breath when we touched

Her hand lingered

Palm a bit sweaty

She asked for my name, or maybe gave hers first

She is giving like that

I named her for myself.

Or one of them Goddesses that come to you

When you least expect it and need it the most

Fleeting yet everything that you desire at the time

God is good, all the time

God is good, all the time

God is good, all the time,

And all the time, God is a Woman.

You became the master manifest of my destiny

The closure to my heart

and I gave it all to you

As you walked away

With my number and my life

Aren’t you glad you put your phone down?
